IP Rating System

The code letters IP of BS EN 60529:1989 refer to International Protection as applicable to enclosure or electrical equipment with a rated voltage not exceeding 72.5KV.

The code and rating system is composed by the two letters IP followed by two numbers: the first one is the Code Number for dust protection (Numeral from 0 to 6), the second one is the Code Number for water protection (Numeral from 0 to 8)

protection against ingress of solid foreign bodies

protection against harmful ingress of water

Full penetration of 50mm diameter sphere not allowed and shall have adequate clearance from hazardous parts. Contact with hazardous parts not permitted.
